The Designer ~ Polly Roberts Giles

I LOVE my job! I have been in this business since a very young age when I would sit behind a drawing board drafting lines by hand, running blueprints on an old ammonia blueprint machine, and stacking them neatly to be given to clients upon completion. My duties were not paid in the sense of an income but rather by helping my father Wilson Roberts run his business, Wilson Roberts Residential Designs, Inc..  In technical school I began taking classes in drafting and design, as my dream would always be to follow in my father’s footsteps and own my own company one day.

Life took me in a different direction in my younger adult years.  After marriage, two kids, and working in the shipping industry for 20 years, I had to make a change in career due to a failing economy in the shipping industry.  This was a prime opportunity for me to begin my lifelong dream of following in my father’s footsteps as a residential designer.  The talent was naturally there for me to follow.  I jumped at the idea and started working for my father in 1998, and I have enjoyed the design business ever since.

Fast forward into today, my father has retired and left his legacy for me to follow.  Thanks to him, I have opened my own business, Home Sweet Home Plans, and fulfilled a lifetime dream.  I have designed custom homes, remodels, additions, designed churches, worked with many builders on spec and track homes, and more.

My specialty is custom homes: working one on one with my clients, listening to their goals and plans for their new future home and family life, and coming together to design a dream home that will last a lifetime.  My latest achievement has been spending numerous hours learning a new software program for my business and clients that is in 3D.  This has enabled me to pass on a virtual reality to my clients so that they are able to visualize their new design and see it come to life in a dimensional aspect.

When I’m not designing, I’m probably hanging out with my family, watching football, at the beach with friends, golfing with my husband, or messing around with my new hobby, Graphisoft Archicad software computer program.
